Abstract
Congenital cholesteatoma of the mastoid is an uncommon situation. A 9-year-old boy had 4-month history of otorrea. Physical examination revealed a mass like lesion covered with the crust in posterior portion of left external auditory canal. A CT study showed about 0.6¡¿0.7 cm sized mass in the mastoid. It contacted with mastoid segment of the facial nerve. After mastoidotomy was done, posterior part of cholesteatoma was removed and then mastoid segment of the facial nerve was exposed. We stimulated the facial nerve using Nerve Integrity Monitor (NIM)-2TM (XomedTM, U.S.A.) and there was no evidence of nerve injury. There has been no recurrence during the 4 months period of follow-up.
